To support the construction strategy, we have a vacancy for a Design Standards Manager to play a pivotal role in standardising processes and driving improvement opportunities.
The role
As the Design Standards Manager, you’ll develop, implement, and manage a Corporate Design Standard governance process enabling the delivery of consistent fit-for-purpose properties, which will provide the opportunity for standardised Facilities Management and bulk procurement. A key focus of the role will be to identify and implement improvements to the built environment across Royal Mail, through multiple capital, transformation and business as usual programmes and projects.
Accountabilities
* Lead the cross-functional senior stakeholder process to approve the proposed Design Standard governance methodology.
* Critical review of all proposed standards (new and amendments), ensuring they are fit-for-purpose, consistent with other related standards, and supported by a viable business case.
* Articulating to the Governance Group complex concepts, technical information and risks/issues in a concise, engaging and convincing written and verbal style.
* Ensure an effective and timely derogation process, managing variations from approved design standards as required on individual projects.
* The analysis of derogation trends for potential future adaptation to the standards, making recommendations for future revisions to the standards.
* Manage the Design Standards Group, ensuring the required levels of governance.
* Manage the response to capital project and FM team queries, providing a formal interpretation of design standards in projects.
Location: Nationwide with UK travel, frequent/weekly attendance at 185 Farringdon Road, London.
About you
You need to demonstrate the following skills and experience on your CV:
• An experienced professional with an understanding of the entire construction process and a depth understanding of the Whole Life Cycle process.
• Experience of working in the warehouse and logistics sector, with transferable design knowledge.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to influence and engage others.
• Ability to form and build on strategic partnerships and collaborations across teams, directorates and with external stakeholders.
• Ability to translate strategic objectives into operational plans that can effectively brief experts and non-experts on design requirements.
• Excellent negotiation, influencing, facilitation and inter-personal skills.
• Commercially minded, with an ability to look outside of normal practices.
• Familiar with BIM and 3D modelling tools.
• A degree in Construction Management, Engineering or Architectural-based course that is accredited by the RIBA, RICS, ICE or CIOB.
• Qualified or working towards Chartership in a relevant field (e.g. RIBA Part III, ICE, RICS, CIOB, etc).
• CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card, or as a minimum Construction Skill H&S test pass.
