Thisis a unique opportunity for an enthusiastic Trainee Practitioner Psychologist( wte) to join the Devon Maternal Mental Health Clinic on a Band 6Preceptorship with progression to Band 7 upon qualification from a CounsellingPsychology Doctorate course.
The Maternal Mental Health Clinicis an NHS service providing psychological therapies to women who haveexperienced a loss or trauma during the perinatal period. This service was oneof the first Maternal Mental Health Clinics commissioned nationally, and we areproud to provide high quality psychological interventions to women and birthingpeople during the perinatal period.
Thisis a psychology led service with well-established links with the widerPerinatal Mental Health Services (PNMHS), Primary Care Mental Health, Midwiferyservices and the 3rd sector. The service consists of a small,supportive team of Psychologists and Counsellors who are passionate about supportingwomen and birthing people in the perinatal period. We are a trauma informedservice with a focus on improving access to mental health care for people whoface health inequalities.
Main duties of the job
The principal purpose of this job is to improve the psychological health and wellbeing of women accessing the Maternal Mental Health Clinic, which forms a part of the wider Perinatal Mental Health Service.
The post holder will be working under the supervision of a qualified psychologist or psychological therapist to undertake specialised psychological assessments, treatment and other types of clinical intervention with individual clients. There may also be opportunities to contribute to the development of the service, including the designing and implementation of therapeutic groups, providing training and supervision for midwifery/NICU services, as well as research and service evaluation projects.
The successful candidate will be currently enrolled on a Doctorate for Counselling Psychology training programme, working towards qualification and professional registration as a Practitioner Psychologist with the HCPC.
£37,339- £44,962 (Band 6), Preceptorship to £46,148 - £52,809 (Band 7) onQualification and professional registration as a Counselling Psychologist. Perannum pro rata (2024/25 pay scales).

To work independently on a day-to-day basis under supervision and subject to review at regular intervals, in accordance with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and British Psychological Society (BPS) or other approved accrediting organisation guidelines; supervision will usually be offered by a qualified psychologist or psychological therapist
To be currently enrolled on a Doctorate for Counselling Psychology training programme, working towards qualification and professional registration as a Practitioner Psychologist with the HCPC.

Essential
1. -Currently enrolled on a Doctorate for Counselling Psychology training programme, working towards professional registration as a Practitioner Psychologist and registration with HCPC.
2. -An Honours Degree in Psychology.
3. -Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.
Desirable
4. -Honours Degree in Psychology graded at upper second class or above.
Experience

5. A minimum of one years experience working with people with a relevant client group in a healthcare setting.

6. Two to Three years experience of further paid work in direct care provision.
Knowledge

7. -High level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive. Ability to communicate highly complex and sensitive information to patients, carers and colleagues in a way that addresses psychological resistance.
8. -A thorough understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health problems or other disabilities. Accurate use of complex psychological assessment tools.
9. -An ability to apply existing theoretical psychological knowledge to a mental health/disability context.
10. -An understanding of psychology theory applied to health care.
11. High standard of report writing.

12. -Experience using computers for databases or data-analysis, especially SPSS for Windows.
