Principal Engineer
Job Role:
As a Principal (Geotechnical / Geo-environmental) Engineer, you will be primarily responsible for pricing, winning, and delivering projects with a focus on technical report writing and project management of site investigations.
Your general responsibilities will include:
1. Clients & Business Development: Foster and grow client relationships through strategic pricing, great communication, and leading delivery or technical work.
2. Pricing and Quoting: Involved in or lead quoting for small, medium, and large projects/contracts.
3. Technical and Project Delivery: Check/approve technical reports produced by other staff and offer feedback as appropriate.
4. Liaison: Act as a liaison between client, stakeholders, and relevant regulatory authorities.
5. Lab Management: Manage lab operations including delivery of supplies and organizing sample collection.
6. Procurement: Purchase services as required for ongoing projects and business development.
7. Cost Management: Ensure projects are delivered within budget and costs are controlled.
8. Line Management: Responsible for line management of graduate engineers.
9. Personal Development: Manage your own career development and maintain technical and commercial competence.
10. Supporting the Management Team: Support senior management in business planning, training, people development, and technical leadership.
Line Management:
As a line manager, you will play a crucial role in translating our client's goals and strategies into action at the operational level while supporting and developing your team members.
Typical Line Management Responsibilities:
1. Supervision: Oversee the work of graduate/senior engineers or teams.
2. Performance Management: Assess and manage team performance, provide feedback, set goals, and conduct appraisals.
3. Training and Development: Identify training needs and provide opportunities for skill development.
4. Resource Allocation: Allocate resources to support team goals.
5. Problem Solving: Address issues within the team and facilitate communication.
6. Goal Setting: Set clear objectives aligning with client goals.
7. Communication: Facilitate communication between management and engineers.
8. Decision Making: Make decisions related to operations and resource allocation.
9. Motivation and Engagement: Keep engineers motivated by providing recognition and growth opportunities.
10. Compliance: Ensure adherence to client policies and regulations.
