The key focus of this role will be to work in conjunction with the existing Volunteer Coordinators to maintain a pipeline of diverse volunteers and to recruit and induct new volunteers (in line with SCCCC's safer recruitment practices) into a variety of volunteering roles within the charity.
Promote volunteering opportunities with SCCCC by carrying out outreach activities and liaising with other groups such as relevant infrastructure organisations (i.e. Voluntary Action groups), Universities and community organisations.
To support the continuous development of volunteering practice, procedures and approach for SCCCC.
Main duties of the job
Recruiting volunteers
Work with the Fundraising, Communications and Marketing Officer, to support the development of marketing materials and other promotional activities to raise awareness about the variety of volunteering opportunities available.
Attend meetings across Sheffield and (and elsewhere in South Yorkshire), where appropriate to promote volunteering opportunities and to recruit, support and train volunteers.
Organise, arrange and conduct interviews for prospective new volunteers (in person and/or virtually) to assess their suitability in line with safer recruitment practices, signposting those who may not meet the role person specification, to relevant organisations such as the local Volunteer Centre.
In line with safer recruitment practices a) ensure volunteers and staff have appropriate checks undertaken with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) by carrying out relevant applications; b) obtain appropriate references of prospective volunteers.
Organise, arrange and provide induction training and support for both new and established volunteers.

Development
Work with the existing Volunteer Coordinator and other colleagues to identify opportunities to develop our practice, policies and procedures and volunteer strategy in line with our commitment for continuous improvement and development.
Identify opportunities to develop new volunteering projects and activities relevant to the charity.
Supervision, monitoring and reporting
Update and maintain a database of prospective and existing volunteers.
Maintain appropriate records of work undertaken and produce written reports as required.
Engage in regular one-to-ones with the line manager including an annual performance development review.
Participate in regular team meetings and attend staff briefings.
General
Work within SCCCC strategic plan, values, policies and procedures.
Uphold the SCCCC Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Policy.
Attend appropriate training courses to enhance and develop own skills.

Qualifications
Essential:
* Good general education

* Good GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Maths

Experience
Essential:
* Minimum 2 years experience in a relevant post or organisation
* Experience working within community engagement and/or the volunteering environment
* Experience delivering community and volunteering projects
* Experience contributing to a team environment
* Ability to recruit, select, induct, support and supervise volunteers
* Ability to train or organise training for volunteers
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships with volunteers, services users and external parties, including minoritized or marginalised communities
* Ability to communicate effectively both internally and externally to a wide variety of audiences and using a variety of methods suitable to different audiences
* Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a wide range of people
* Good telephone manner and the ability to deal sensitively with service users, family members and carers
* Committed and highly self-motivated
* Ability to work in a self-directed manner, and as part of a team
* Ability to work under pressure
* Good computer skills and ability to use standard Microsoft Office packages including spreadsheets as well as MS Teams or Zoom for video calls
