Main duties of the job
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) has a busy, complex cardiac and congenital cardiac surgery service and our large perfusion team sits at the heart of our success in supporting safe patient care and some of the best patient outcomes in England. We are looking for expert Senior Clinical Perfusion Scientists (8a) to join the team within our Cardiovascular and Thoracic care group which is acknowledged as a regional centre of excellence.
Successful candidates will be conversant with cardiac surgical techniques performed on neonatal, paediatric and adults, including cell salvage, point of care blood analysis, ECMO, Percutaneous Hepatic perfusion and research. We do however welcome applications who do not yet have this clinical exposure and we are proud to offer full and comprehensive training.

Job responsibilities
Currently, the cardiac team undertakes 1800 adults and 400 paediatric procedures per year across our five cardiac theatres. You must be accredited by the Society of Perfusionists of Great Britain & Ireland and registered with the College of Clinical Perfusionists of Great Britain & Ireland. This role attracts an additional Recruitment and Retention Premium (see details below), a contribution to relocation costs for eligible candidates as well as an exceptional NHSP rate for additional shifts.

The successful applicant will be expected to carry out various administrative duties associated with the role and will be delegated additional responsibilities as required. Full participation in the department on-call rota is essential.

The department currently offers a 37.5 hour, 3-day working week.
Currently, the Trust is offering a recruitment and retention premium for this role totalling £8,000 p.a. (pro rata) and we are happy to provide support with relocation. T&Cs will apply and can be discussed at interview.
Person Specification
Qualifications, knowledge and experience
Essential
* MSc in Clinical perfusion science or equivalent knowledge and experience
* Society of Clinical Perfusion Scientists Accreditation.
* Full registration with the College of Clinical Perfusion Scientists.
* Fully conversant with all aspects of adult cardiopulmonary bypass procedures and associated techniques.
* Be fully conversant with specialist techniques and perfusion procedures as required by individual patients such as, left heart bypass, cerebral perfusion (both antegrade and retrograde), vacuum assisted venous drainage, ventricular assist devices and blood conservation techniques
* To demonstrate highly developed auditory, visual and perceptive skills in dealing with a mass of information
* A flexible and innovative approach to practice which is appropriate to the needs of the client patient group and consistent with the aims of the Trust.
Desirable
* A broad range of experience in neonatal, Paediatric and GUCH perfusion.
* Paediatric perfusion experience
* Paediatric ECMO training course.
