Community Engagement Assistant
Closing date: Monday 6 January 2025
Salary: £23,342.33 Pro rata per annum
Contract type: Fixed term / Working hours: Part time
Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust is looking for a passionate and organised Community Engagement Assistant to support our innovative community-led approach to nature conservation. This 9-month part-time role is based in Leicester, with flexible hours and opportunities to work closely with diverse communities. You will play a vital role in helping local people and groups build knowledge and skills, empowering them to take action for wildlife and create pride in their neighbourhoods through nature-based initiatives.
This position focuses on building positive relationships between the Trust and community organisations, facilitating local events, and supporting initiatives that enable community members to lead their own projects. You’ll organise workshops, pop-up events, and consultations, helping to foster self-supporting networks of community champions for nature. To excel in this role, you’ll need strong communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire individuals from diverse backgrounds. A proven track record in organising and delivering community events or projects is essential, alongside experience in building collaborative relationships with community groups. Excellent organisational abilities and a proactive, adaptable approach will be key to managing a varied workload effectively.
A core aspect of this role involves embracing a Community Organising approach. This method empowers people to identify shared goals, develop leadership skills, and foster connections within their community. It’s about facilitating—not leading—and supporting individuals to create change for themselves. At Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust, this philosophy aligns with our Team Wilder initiative, which encourages collaboration and innovation to make a real difference for wildlife.
We are looking for someone with a passion for inclusion, a strong work ethic, and the confidence to work both independently and as part of a team. Familiarity with Leicester’s communities and an understanding of barriers to engagement will be an advantage. If you’re ready to inspire and enable community-powered change, we’d love to hear from you!
