Enjoying unique lifestyle opportunities, St Helena Island is a self-governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom. Although better placed to develop economically and socially as a result of opening our international airport in 2017, we are not at the stage of self-sufficiency and therefore remain dependent on UK government aid. There are four schools on the island; one secondary and three primaries. The curriculum broadly models the English education system.
As you monitor and assess student performance and develop the tracking systems currently in place you will plan, prepare and deliver schemes of work and develop them for early years, key stage 1 and 2. Your high quality teaching will include monitoring, assessment, reporting and feedback to students and parents, offering high quality CPD for colleagues in the primary school with support and advice to teachers and trainers across the primary sector. You must be prepared to work outside of normal hours and with challenging students and parents.
Holding a UK teaching qualification and QTS, you are qualified to degree level and have experience of successful teaching at key stages 1 and 2. You have knowledge of the early years and Primary Curriculum within the UK and have worked overseas, preferably in a developing economy.
With specific experience in literacy and numeracy improvement at any level you have knowledge of a range of primary strategies and approaches to drive up standards, including the use of evidence based interventions .Having provided professional development and training for other staff you have high and realistic expectations for ALL children and young people through the provision of positive learning experiences in primary.
In addition, you must demonstrate our core values of fairness, integrity and teamwork and use your diverse expertise and experiences to ensure your time on the Island has the broadest benefit to St Helena. As an officer funded through the Technical Co-Operation Programme you will be expected to share your knowledge and skills beyond the workplace contributing to workforce, community and capacity development in St Helena.
