What you’ll be doing As a Legal Counsel supporting Hinkley Point C (HPC), you’ll play a critical role in shaping one of the UK’s most complex and high-value infrastructure projects. Construction & Contracting Lead the legal support for the procurement, negotiation, and management of a wide range of contracts essential to the construction, operation, and maintenance of HPC. Advise on procurement strategies, commercial models, performance securities, and insolvency risks to drive project success. Work closely with internal stakeholders and external advisors to ensure contracting strategies align with project goals, mitigating risks and ensuring contract performance. Apply your expertise in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating construction contracts (FIDIC, NEC, and bespoke agreements). Governance & Stakeholder Management Navigate complex governance arrangements, ensuring compliance with shareholder, regulatory, and stakeholder requirements. Translate strategic stakeholder and funding requirements into supply chain deliverables and commitments that support the long-term success of HPC. Collaborate with key project teams to align legal frameworks with financial structures, investor expectations, and regulatory obligations. Collaboration & Industry Leadership Work alongside industry-leading advisors and private practice lawyers, handling high-value and complex contracts that set new standards in alliancing and incentivisation principles. Partner with regional and multinational suppliers, leveraging recognised industry standards (FIDIC, NEC) to drive innovation and collaboration. Driving Innovation & Continuous Improvement Apply lessons learned to identify efficiencies and improvements across legal and commercial strategies. Who you are Qualified & Experienced – Solicitor qualified in England & Wales or a Commonwealth jurisdiction, with post-qualification experience, ideally in projects or construction law. Clear & Engaging Communicator – Able to explain complex legal concepts in a clear and tailored way, whether in writing, presentations, or discussions with diverse stakeholders. Proactive & Organised – Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Commercially Astute – A strategic thinker who can assess risks, propose mitigations, and provide balanced legal advice that supports EDF’s business objectives.
