We are looking for
two enthusiastic individuals to join our clinical team for a fixed term post between February 2025 and August 2025 that has arisen as a result of our Registrars acting up into consultant posts. Applicants will be expected to provide SpR-level (ST3+) medical cover for our inpatients in the department of respiratory medicine, working as part of a multi-professional team. They will also take part in outpatient clinics and see ward referrals from other teams. The successful candidate will work within a team of 4-5 respiratory SpRs.
The position
The successful candidate will contribute to the general medical on-call rota on an equal basis to the other registrars within the team. The post is available to applicants who have clinical experience and qualifications equivalent to ST3 level or above.
This post is not accredited as part of a speciality training programme. This post will however provide an opportunity to gain excellent experience in the management of acute and chronic respiratory and general medical patients and to develop your PDP.
Clinical responsibilities - The post-holder will be expected to take part in ward rounds both with a consultant and independently and to support the junior team on the respiratory wards. They will take part in respiratory clinics and see ward referrals. There will be the opportunity to gain experience of bronchoscopy, pleural procedures and the management of patients receiving non-invasive ventilation. The post-holder will also be involved in departmental teaching and training.
Educational Responsibilities - The successful candidate would be expected to take an active role in the teaching activities of the department. They will provide teaching and support to junior colleagues. We also have medical students on placements within the department and the post-holder will be expected to contribute to teaching of students.
Education - The department runs a formal weekly lunchtime teaching programme (Fridays), to which the post-holder is expected to contribute. In addition there are weekly lunchtime grand rounds (Tuesdays).
Administration and Management - The post-holder is expected to help with the smooth running of the team and with the setting up of regular audit, M and M meetings and clinical governance work. The post-holder will also be in an excellent position to contribute to medical committees as a junior doctor representative with experience of the acute medical service and to help develop clinical guidelines.
