Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Quality Control Lab Supervisor, you will work as a key part of the Quality team, contributing towards the successful commercialisation of the company’s Omega-3 product and development of future products.
Your primary responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, microbiological and analytical testing of all process/product samples, and coordinating external testing shipments, as well as conforming to quality control measures, maintaining records, and safety procedures.
You will be expected to apply your experience and knowledge proactively to trouble shooting, methods and processes, operation design, implementation, and reporting of microbiological trend data to both the Production Team and other departments within the company.
The role will require you to work flexibly and tackle complex problems either as an individual or as part of a team.
Duties
* Carry out Quality Control (QC) activities, including microbiological testing, product characterisation testing, coordination of external quality testing, facility cleaning, equipment set-up, and operation.
* Contribute to the development and improvement of quality control procedures, carrying out administrative duties including, COSHH forms, and risk assessments.
* Report and provide support on non-conformance investigations.
* Maintain all QC systems, databases, logs, support the generation of QC trend data, and data adhering to good documentation practices.
* Carrying out and arranging routine equipment maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment following approved methods and procedures on assigned pieces of equipment.
* Maintain lab stock levels and support routine lab tasks, working to SOPs as required, for example preparing buffers, media, plates and flasks, cell counting etc.
* Actively participate in cross-departmental communications to implement improvement.
* Assist in method development and validation.
About You
We are seeking driven individuals with a flexible approach to work who are keen to make their mark within a rapidly growing award-winning biotechnology start-up company.
The ideal candidate will possess a BSc or Master’s degree in a biological or biotechnology-related field, with a minimum of 2 years of experience handling live microorganisms in a hygienic environment. Relevant industrial experience is preferred, especially with practical knowledge in microbiological testing, environmental monitoring, and working within a quality management system.
You will need a keen eye for detail and be an excellent communicator with the ability to work independently and effectively within team. You will have a positive ‘can do’ approach and a keen interest in the use of biotechnology for the benefit of the environment.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Educated to BSc or Master’s degree level in a relevant life science discipline, with a minimum of 2 years of experience in the aseptic handling of microbial cultures, or relevant industrial experience in a similar industry such as brewing and distilling, dairy processing, pharmaceuticals, or chemical manufacturing.
* Proficient in laboratory techniques and equipment, gained through work experience and/or academic studies.
* Proficient in working within health and safety procedures and adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
* Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to understand and address scientific and engineering challenges.
* Excellent record-keeping and data-recording skills.
* Ability to communicate clearly and concisely within a team environment.
* Exceptional time management skills.
* A full, clean driving license is required, as independent travel to and from the company’s demonstrator site is required.
