Job summary
We are recruiting for a full time, LAS Specialty Registrar in General Surgery to work within the General Surgery Unit at the Royal Berkshire Hospital under supervision of the General Surgery consultants. This post is ideal for senior registrars undergoing CESR pathway of specialist registration.
Main duties of the job
The post will provide generous experience of emergency and elective procedures. It is an excellent opportunity for a candidate aspiring to a career in General Surgery. The successful applicant will work with the General Surgery team of 14 Consultants and 10 SpRs/Clinical Fellows. The General Surgical Unit operates a ward-based system and you will be working as part of a team of junior doctors and consultants looking after emergency and elective admissions on GSU and SAU wards. There will be opportunities to attend general surgery outpatients and endoscopy training for suitable candidates.

1. GMC registration

2. Full registration with GMC with a licence to practise.
3. MRCS or equivalent.
4. NHS experience in Upper Gi or Lower GI surgery at registrar level
5. Ability to offer clinical opinion on a range of problems in general surgery
6. Ability to take responsibility for clinical care of patients with surgical conditions
7. Evidence of good written and verbal communication skills
8. Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate
9. Basic understanding of research methods and statistics
10. Experience of teaching medical students and junior doctors
Desirable
11. FRCS (General Surgery).
12. JAG Accreditation.
13. Research with higher degree in general surgery
14. Experience of MDT working
15. Ability and enthusiasm to teach medical undergraduates and Allied Health Professionals
