Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust are seeking a Midwifery Duty Manager to join our team.
On a daily basis be proactive in reviewing the capacity within the unit and supporting the midwives in effective and efficient discharge. Ensuring staffing levels are appropriate to provide a safe service.
Provide leadership to midwifery and non-midwifery staff, ensuring effective management of the daily activity and throughout maternity services. This will result in high standards of midwifery care, reduction in length of stay and responsive to individualized needs, thus increasing client satisfaction.
This role will also support the Matrons and Team Leaders in sickness reviews ensuring return to works are undertaken and any escalation required in relation to this undertaken.
You will have knowledge in, improvement methodology and have a proactive ‘can do’ approach, be highly motivated and confident in managing challenging and changing workloads. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and will bring a strong patient centered service approach to their role.
This is a new post, which will require a high level of initiative and resourcefulness to develop relationships and introduce systems and processes, including data analysis.
• Actively organise/participate in relevant training sessions for all staff.
• Ensure a safe environment is maintained for women, their babies, visitors and staff
• Acting as a role model for staff providing clinical expertise and advice.
• Oversee the daily elective care pathway for women, identifying constraints and liaising with the senior management to address them.
• Proactive in addressing complaints and managing staff sickness and absence.
• Develop and maintain a planned systematic and problem solving approach to individualised care.
• Carry the bleep for the unit, ensuring effective communication between departments overseeing the timely discharge of clients.
• Undertake minimum of 2 clinical shifts per month.
• Work in close co-operation with other Band 7 Midwives to ensure staff allocation is equitable and allows for continuity of care.
• Identify staffing requirements and organise replacements as necessary. Report to Head of Midwifery if issues identified.
• Ensure effective communication at all levels, including co-ordinating Consultant requirements.
• Develop and maintain an audit tool for collection of statistics required to inform on the performance of Maternity Services.
