The Guardian’s Today in Focus podcast is looking to expand and diversify its casual audio producer and sound designer pool.
The Guardian is looking for audio producers to plan, record, and edit episodes of our daily news podcast Today in Focus. This opportunity would be ideal for anyone with an interest in current affairs and who has experience in producing audio content across a range of issues. They are also looking for sound designers to sound design and mix episodes.
The Guardian actively encourages applications from BAME candidates and those from other groups traditionally underrepresented in the UK media.
Daily rate: £233.50
Location: Hybrid (London and Remote)
About You
* 2+ years experience in radio or podcasting
* Experienced in news, current affairs, popular culture journalism or documentaries
* Ability to work to tight deadlines
* Experience with audio editing software: able to edit smoothly and accurately at pace
* Ideally, you’ll have a demonstrable ability to bring a diverse perspective to this role
About the Producer Shifts
* Generating ideas for podcast episodes, researching, briefing presenters and guests for interviews, recording in studio, remotely and on location, scripting, editing and mixing to professional standards
* You’ll be covering a wide range of UK and international stories. Today in Focus produces podcasts on such topics as housing, pop culture, elections, conflict, education, human rights, technology, and investigations
* Working closely with senior and executive producers in a creative environment while guaranteeing the highest levels of editorial and legal standards
About the Sound Designer Shifts
* Scoring episodes with music selected from an online library. Music should appropriately reflect the themes and the tone of the episode
* Mixing the episode, ensuring the voices of the presenters, guests, tape, and archive tracks are balanced and clean. This may involve repairing audio using tools such as denoise, dereverb, de-ess, etc. Fluency in a DAW such as Ableton, Cubase, Logic, Audition, or Cubase is required
* Working collaboratively with senior and executive producers, reacting to evolving news, and making changes in script, music, and mix as directed
