A global convenience retail organisation is looking to recruit a VAT Assistant Manager to join their in-house tax team at their head office in Blackburn. The company operates filling stations, convenience stores, and food service outlets throughout Europe and is based in the UK. It is a well-established, highly respected organisation seeking an experienced professional in VAT and management to help the group.
Your new role
As a VAT Assistant Manager in the tax team, you will report to the VAT Director and support the VAT Managers. Your responsibilities will include preparing and submitting VAT returns and EC Sales Lists (ECSLs) for specific territories, which involves collaborating with country finance teams to enhance processes and data accuracy. Additionally, you will provide ad-hoc support to the VAT Director on various non-compliance Indirect Tax matters.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Preparing and submitting VAT returns, EC Sales Lists, and Intrastat returns.
2. Performing reconciliations and assisting in VAT audits.
3. Building and maintaining relationships with key finance personnel across the business.
4. Working with finance teams to improve processes.
What you'll need to succeed
1. VAT technical knowledge and experience of preparing and submitting VAT returns.
2. Intermediate/advanced Excel skills.
3. Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
4. Ability to adapt and respond to changing priorities.
5. Accuracy and attention to detail.
6. Characteristics such as integrity, trust, professionalism, initiative, discretion, teamwork.
7. Tax technical qualifications, working knowledge of SAP and VAT reporting tools is desirable.
What you'll get in return
Salary would be £45k - £50k.
Standard 10% bonus.
In-office work, with the option to work from home once a week.
