The Black Horse Pike Regional School District has an opening for a Library Media Specialist at Highland for the 2025-2026 school year.
JOB GOAL: The library media specialist provides a library media program that supports the curriculum by providing resources and training so that both students and teachers become independent users of information.
REPORTS TO: PRINCIPAL
QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold or be eligible for a New Jersey Educational Media Specialist Certificate.
Performance Responsibilities:
* Follow established policies and procedures developed by the Principal.
* Enter book, audio-visual, and serials data into appropriate database software, update local information in electronic periodical indexes, and update user information in circulation software. Extract statistical data for usage reports.
* Process library materials such as books, audio-visual materials, periodicals, and vertical file materials.
* Supervise all activities involving interlibrary loans including traditional and electronic transactions and preparing ILL materials for return to lending facility.
* Perform circulation desk duties including: supervision of students signing in from lunch and study hall, helping students by checking books in and out, retrieving and copying periodicals, issuing passes, answering general information questions, and directing student flow in and out of the LMC.
* Assist students and teachers in the use of public access catalog and other computer programs; assist students and teachers in the use of equipment such as audio players, and previewing machines; and direct users to standard references.
* Assist in the acquisition and organization of periodicals. Prepare and present recommendations for supplies and equipment.
* Help teachers find instructional materials and answer student and teacher questions as needed.
* Perform other duties such as: compile records, sort and shelve books, laminate materials for students and staff, design and maintain media center bulletin boards and displays, handle discards, repair books, write LMC announcements concerning special events for the morning news and bulletin board, generate overdue lists, and related tasks.
* Plan with teachers as cooperative partners to integrate curriculum content with resource use and information literacy skills.
* Consult with students and staff regarding their needs and interests in relation to the selection and utilization of materials and equipment.
* Provide library media center resources that will meet the informational, research, educational, and recreational needs of users.
* Provide for the organization, circulation, and maintenance of resources.
* Use direct, formal instruction and indirect, informal instruction to teach specific skills needed for use of the library media center and technology with students and staff.
* Coordinate information retrieval for students and staff through print, audiovisual, and electronic sources.
* Promote literacy and the enjoyment of reading, viewing, and listening.
* Consult with the principal, assistant principal, and faculty members to formulate and implement a mission, philosophy, goals, and objectives for the library media program.
* Participate in the development of a long-range technology plan for the school.
* Analyze curriculum changes and advances in technology to meet the instructional needs of students.
* Promote the library media center through public relations.
* Maintain and regularly update the library websites to ensure the latest information is provided.
* Perform other duties as assigned related to the services in the Library Media Center.
