European Pharmaceutical Correspondent - Reuters
We anticipate the successful candidate being based in Frankfurt, Germany or London (UK). Other European centres will also be considered.
Reuters is seeking an energetic and tenacious journalist with strong source-building skills, great story ideas and a track record of breaking news to join our companies news team as European pharmaceutical industry correspondent.
The successful candidate will deliver an outstanding news file for professional and media clients, spanning breaking news, quick-turn analyses and deeply reported initiative stories to shed light on one of the world’s most important markets for healthcare.
The correspondent will work closely with reporters in the region, and globally, to break news and set the agenda on the race to develop obesity drugs as well as new breakthroughs in cancer and rare diseases. They will delve into the corporate strategies of some of the biggest Western drug-makers and their dealings with governments and patients, particularly under a second Trump administration that has promised new scrutiny of vaccines and investment into chronic conditions. They will identify new trends in drug development and pricing; will cultivate sources within those companies as well as regulatory bodies such as the European Medicines Agency.
The ideal candidate will be a skilled communicator, working closely with other teams including our U.S. Health & Pharma team, our breaking news hubs and reporters across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
About the Role
As our European Pharma Correspondent at Reuters, you will:
* Deliver breaking news at speed and provide unparalleled insights on developments in the pharmaceuticals industry.
* Identify and develop exclusive news stories that will distinguish Reuters from other media organisations.
* Collaborate closely with reporters across Europe and in other regions.
* Work with multimedia teams including pictures, graphics and video to develop 360-degree storytelling.
About You
You’re a fit for the role if your background includes:
* At least 5 years of experience reporting or editing at a major news organisation.
* A track record of breaking exclusive news of global significance.
* Experience working collaboratively with others.
* Strong writing skills.
* Background in health and/or business reporting is an advantage.
* Advanced German and/or French recommended.
