Band 6 - Diabetes Nurse
20 hours per week - part time hours
This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of the multi-disciplinary Diabetes Service with Bromley Healthcare, based at Beckenham Beacon.
The successful candidate will work alongside and be supported by a highly skilled multidisciplinary team including Consultants, Diabetes Specialist Nurses and Dieticians.
The post will include responsibility for a mixed caseload including people with Type 2 and support to develop skills in managing patients with Type 1 diabetes. They will need to show empathy and sensitivity to the needs of the patients, have good communication skills, together with a friendly, polite and professional attitude.
The successful candidate will need to be confident in delivering education to groups and ideally have experience of structured education programmes e.g. DESMOND. They will need excellent clinical, organisational, IT and communication skills. This post is only suitable for applicants with knowledge and clinical experience in Diabetes.
Main duties of the job
* Provide comprehensive, evidence-based diabetes care for people with diabetes and healthcare professionals within the Bromley area.
* Work as a skilled practitioner implementing treatment based on expert clinical practice.
* Provide comprehensive evidence-based specialist clinical care, training and consultancy to both people with diabetes and other professionals providing care, in a range of settings including the diabetes centre, patients' homes and nursing homes.
* Contribute to the development of diabetes services across provider boundaries.

Qualifications
* Registered Nurse, RGN/RN (Adult)
* Diploma/degree in nursing or equivalent
* NMC
* Nurse Prescriber
* Post registration
* Diabetes Qualification
* MSc in relevant topic
* Teaching qualification

* Up to date knowledge of current NHS Agenda
* Excellent knowledge of diabetes and its management
* Excellent/consistent standards of Clinical Care
* Excellent patient management and assessment skills
* Ability to interpret clinical data and use clinical judgement and reasoning skills
* Ability to work with people from varying backgrounds and complex needs and levels of understanding

Experience
* Substantial post registration to include some specific diabetes experience

Salary is determined by NHS experience and current banding/pay point. External applicants will begin at the entry point of the salary scale in line with NHS terms and conditions.
