The Role The role of Project Engineer exists to provide the detailed technical input to a Project and ensure all the works – temporary, permanent & off-site, are planned and executed safely. It requires production of safe systems of work and the implementation & monitoring of controls to ensure quality standards are in place. This will ensure that the requirements of the specification are met. In addition, the Project Engineer will supervise & manage a team of Engineers thus people management skills are essential. Key responsibilities Actively implement Byrne Bros safety targets and zero tolerance of unsafe working practices and occurrences; Establish and implement site systems and controls consistent with company standards and project requirements; Manage, develop & continuously monitor the Engineering Team to ensure efficient and effective performance. Create an environment where learning & development is encouraged across all disciplines and Engineers can progress in their respective career path. Produce a budget for both Engineering Staff and Equipment for the duration of the Project. Align with Project Budget and monitor throughout the works taking action as required; Identify temporary works requirements and coordinate a solution in tandem; Produce non-conformance reports, establish root cause and implement measures to prevent re-occurrence. Ensure NCR’s are promptly closed-out and learning shared within the Project & wider business; Ensure traceability of all works in terms of compliance with specification and the need to obtain certification; Establish a process to ensure close-out of contract documentation and sign-off of all QA checks; Requisition Plant & Materials as necessary to support the works and meet the requirements of the programme; Produce and communicate risk assessment / method statements to the site supervision or Operatives as deemed necessary; Prepare short term programmes for Temporary works, Design, Procurement or work packages as required to meet the Master Programme; Provide technical review / appraisal of services, products and sub-contract works within the project; Competent in the use of standard computer software packages and Document Control systems. Ensure detailed knowledge of the Project Specification and familiarisation with the Contract so that all permanent works are in accordance with the works information; Establish a detailed understanding of the Scope of Works so that no works are progressed outside this scope without a formal site instruction. Where necessary raise an Early Warning Notice to communicate a risk to the client; Maintain a Site Diary and ensure the Engineering Team follow suit. Where Extension of Time or other Claims are being pursued be pro-active in referring to the diary and providing back-up details; Awareness of Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety issues on site and relevant Byrne Bros Policy. The ideal candidate With at least 5 years engineering experience, and a proven track record of working on sub and superstructure packages, specifically with concrete/RC Frame structures and basements, the ideal candidate will hold a Civil Engineering or Construction related degree, have a valid CSCS card and SMSTS, and be able to demonstrate the following skill set: Team leadership and management skills with ability to plan & monitor the workload of a team; Determination to excel within the role and execute responsibilities with due care & diligence, display a willingness to develop in role & potentially progress to Project Management; Technically strong with an extensive knowledge of construction materials, products & techniques; Detailed knowledge and understanding of Engineering principles with the ability to investigate problems, develop solutions and monitor effectiveness; Review the latest Engineering equipment against site requirements, in addition to accuracy consider usability, efficiency, cost and finally suitability; Thorough understanding of Health and Safety regulations with the ability to manage and mitigate risk; Commercially aware and ability to Identify commercial risk & opportunity; Assertiveness and confidence to stop any operations that appear unsafe or contrary to good engineering practice.
