Job Description:
Are you passionate about making systems work for people experiencing severe and multiple disadvantage?
Do you enjoy developing relationships, collaborating and contributing to better outcomes for the people that most need joined up support?
Do you have lived experience of social disadvantage, using health and social care services, or supporting a family member through services?
If you answer yes, we’d love to hear from you
Second Step is the lead agency, in a partnership of organisations, chosen by Bristol City Council, to deliver the MHCLG Changing Futures programme in Bristol to support people experiencing multiple disadvantage, including discrimination, homelessness, domestic abuse, mental health issues, drug and alcohol issues, and contact with the criminal justice system.
Changing Futures is a resource for Bristol. Our aim is to create sustainable change at individual, service & system levels and influence government policy & local commissioning.
In line with Bristol’s Multiple Disadvantage Strategy, this role will be integral to embedding My Team Around Me across Bristol as the way of supporting those most in need of coordinated multi-agency support.
The Role:
The Changing Futures Co-production Service Coordinator will support the coordination of a range of activities linked to increasing the range of strategic co-production across the Bristol health and social care system.
This will include engaging with people with lived experience of severe and multiple disadvantage and diverse backgrounds, working with professionals and organisations to highlight the value of increasing co-production, and delivering training to improve local practice.
This role will also provide leadership and support to a cohort of volunteers with lived and living experience, including managing activities and offering day-to-day advice and support. The Service Coordinator will also identify opportunities for training, volunteering and employment for people with lived experience who work within the service and for sharing with partner organisations who the service supports.
The coordinator will provide supervision to volunteers both individually and in groups, facilitating reflective practice spaces with a psychologically informed approach. The coordinator may also work with partners working nationally to improve co-production practice including Revolving Doors, the National Expert Citizens Group, Making Every Adult Matter, MHCLG and others.
This could also include working with local service commissioning teams, advising on how to bring co-production into all stages of the commissioning cycle, including quality assurance reviews.
Job Context:
Changing Futures is part of a broader initiative aimed at enhancing the involvement of people with lived experience in the development and delivery of services for those facing multiple disadvantages. The co-production service operates within a trauma-informed framework and aims to bring lived experience voices into key strategic spaces across the city.
The coordinator will work closely with the Co-production Service Team Manager and other stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of co-production activities, including training, workshops, consultations, and community of practice events. The role requires collaboration with various departments and external partners to create an inclusive environment that values and amplifies the voices of those with lived experience.
Hours: Part time (up to 18 hours per week, schedule to be discussed with successful candidate).
Contract: Fixed Term until end March 2026
Salary: £31,987 to £34,623 pro rata based on experience
Location: Primarily based from our office in Old Market, but will involve working with partners and stakeholders across the city, including travel to meetings and locations across Bristol and in some cases to national events and conferences to connect with other Changing Futures teams.
Secondments: We are open to discussing these roles as secondment opportunities.
Who we’re looking for:
We are looking for people who are passionate about co-production and raising the voices of people with lived and living experience across the system. You will be excellent at working collaboratively with partners, motivating and influencing lasting positive change for those accessing services today and in the future, holding a vision for each individual to live a life beyond services.
You’ll have an excellent understanding of the support needs of people experiencing severe and multiple disadvantage, comprehensive partnership working skills, and be adept at working through the lens of trauma-informed principles.
You’ll be an excellent communicator and will be equally comfortable working with volunteers with lived experience and clients currently using services, as you will be at building trusting relationships with professionals at all levels of the system.
In return we can offer you:
* Excellent training and support
* Career development and progression opportunities
* 26 – 31 days annual leave pro rata plus 8 bank holidays
* 6% employer pension scheme
* Flexi-time working (hours and locations)
* Cycle to Work Scheme
