James Lewis has been appointed to assist a multi-dimensional Principal Contractor in North London in their search for a Senior Construction Manager - CSA to join the team. Our client works across a range of project sectors which include data centres, education, commercial, healthcare, and science & technology in and around London and the SE. They provide services from design, through construction and fit out to the maintenance of the projects, effectively offering an end-to-end solution.
With data centres being a key market for them, this is a strategic appointment to help with the buildability of both live and future projects. The initial scheme you will be involved with is a data centre in Harlow, Essex, which went live in April and is currently at ground level with most of the infrastructure/services/groundworks complete, along with the piling which concluded last month. Following this will be the concrete slab, steel frame, cladding/Kawneer curtain walling, and aluminium standing seam roofing system with a total build program running through to summer 2026. However, with this being the 3rd hall on a data centre campus, there is space and scope for future phases. The ideal candidate is going to have a broad-base construction knowledge encompassing all the key packages of the build, including underground services/civils packages, steel frame, cladding, roofing, and the fit-out phases of critical infrastructure projects, ideally data centres.
As an experienced Construction Manager, you will be required to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and confidence required to successfully deliver this project. Some of your tasks will include:
1. Review of subcontractor tender returns and ensure accurate financial management/costings and forecasting.
2. Monitoring and where possible, bettering the program by maintaining the program of all on-site construction activities.
3. Manage the supply chain and subcontractor performance in delivery of the packages.
4. Ensure subcontractors compliance with HSEQ requirements to derisk the project and ensuring that all site records are maintained.
5. Identify change requirements.
6. Responsibility for duty of care/site waste management plan.
7. Ensure execution plan is updated and all subcontracting are working according to the plan.
8. Preparing RAMS where required and review of subcontractor RAMS.
To be considered for this position, you will need a qualification in either building engineering, civil engineering, or construction management. We are looking to hear from candidates with previous experience on large scale build projects, with previous data centre experience a distinct advantage, but not essential. Please note that applications from candidates with non-UK experience or experience across highways, road, or rail projects will not be deemed suitable on this occasion. This is a permanent position offering a competitive salary, car allowance, travel, bonus, and benefits package.
