This post is focused on supporting the gastroenterology, nephrology and endocrinology teams within the Trust at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro. The appointee will join a team of consultants and junior doctors to plan and manage patients located on the base and outlying wards. This newly created post will liaise with the medical specialities and refer to the appropriate teams for specific care Main duties of the job • Maintaining the highest clinical standards in the management of acute medicalinpatients under the care of the teams on outlying wards. • To share with colleagues responsibility for the day-to-day management of the outlying patients To liaise where appropriate with the specialty teams. • Teaching and training of junior staff, medical students and specific commitments to the Medical School. • To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and Audit. • To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME). • Provision with Consultant colleagues of a service to the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the proper functioning of the department. • Out-of-hours responsibilities, including participation in the GIM rota where and if applicable. • Cover for colleagues annual leave and other authorised absences. • Any responsibility that relates to a special interest. • Professional supervision of other junior medical staff. • Responsibilities for carrying out teaching. • Participating in medical audit, the Trusts Clinical Governance processes, and in Continuing Professional Development (CPD). • Involvement in research (where applicable). • Managerial, including budgetary responsibilities where appropriate.
