Our client, an Aerospace and Defence supplier is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join them on a 6-month initial contract at their site in Brighton.
Due to the nature of the role, applicants must be willing to undergo basic security checks and have resided in the UK for a minimum of 5 years.
4 days a week onsite in Brighton.
OUTSIDE IR35, rates are open for negotiation.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Produce design schemes and proposals in response to specifications, under guidance of lead engineers / senior designers.
Mechanical Engineering Calculations, Stress Analysis, Fluid Dynamics (FEA and CFD).
Understand the requirement presented in Requests for Quotation - RfQ, Specifications, System Requirements Documents.
Development of innovative, well engineered conceptual solutions and design proposals, and guide other engineers, designers and daughtspersons to produce detailed CAD design layouts and manufacturing drawings (SolidWorks)
Guide and inspire other less experienced engineers.
Technical Report writing and project documentation.
Provide technical guidance and leadership to resolve problems found throughout the product development life cycle to ensure the larger programme schedule are achieved.
Assist fellow team members with processes to improve department efficiency and accuracy.
Calculate first order strength and performance of design solutions.
Select appropriate materials for a durable, minimum cost product.
Choose material forming solutions suitable for the duty and quantity of components to be made
Check design drawings for completeness and accuracy
Select and source proprietary parts/components that are fit for purpose
Support project and manage own work to meet schedule
Support Investigations, solutions and write reports
Follow procedures to meet the requirements of ISO-9001and AS9100
Support internal, customer and supplier meetings
Liaise with Production Engineering to ensure optimum choice of production methods and materials for economic manufacture
Comply with Quality Assurance (QA) requirements and QA procedures
SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE
Essential
Good understanding of; Geometric Tolerancing, Stack-Up Analysis, BS8888, limits/fits.
Proficient user of Solid Works / Solidworks PDM.
Technical Report writing.
Good understanding of Design Office practices, Drawing Issue and Change processes
Familiar with the requirements and capabilities of PDM and ERP systems.
Design products with low costs from the outset (DFMA & Design to Cost methodologies)
Ability to work to deadlines, prioritise workload appropriately in conjunction with Project Management.
Perform work accurately with minimal supervision; Methodical approach to their work.
Understanding of design requirements to ensure designs meet contracted specifications.
