Principal Systems Engineer
An exciting opportunity has arisen in Clevedon (Somerset) for a Principal Systems Engineer to join the world leader in developing and manufacturing exhaust management systems which help to reduce the greenhouse gases produced during the manufacturing of microchips.
Mission
Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, have direct responsibility for leading, empowering and motivating a growing team of Systems Engineers and Verification & Test Engineers, for semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
Responsibility will span concept to customer commissioning and field trials, and through the application of best-practice engineering ensure on time delivery, within strategic operational budget and to specification.
Responsibility for implementing the systems engineering strategy, work closely with internal and external key stakeholders, team leaders, project managers, manufacturing, service, and customer representatives.
Main Responsibilities
Lead 'Systems Engineering' activities across applicable projects.
Develop a strategy compliant with 'ISO / IEC / IEEE 15288:2023 “Systems and software engineering – system life cycle processes” and implement this strategy.
Advocate and lead the adoption of best practice Systems Engineering consistent with INCOSE Handbook (ver. 5) across applicable projects to improve the delivery of the Engineering function.
Align compliance work ISO 15288:2023 to Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) maturity levels.
Manage the systems engineering budgets for people and financial resources and contribute to development of future forecasting.
Lead on the elicitation and delivery of requirements from Stakeholder Requirements to Product-level Requirements, establish functional and logical diagramming, and contribute to the development of validation and verification plans.
Lead and manage systems engineers and teams as assigned, ensuring that such teams work cohesively, collaborate effectively, guiding the team toward successful project milestones through to completion, using SMART objectives within annual development plans, and monitoring via regular and timely 1:1s with direct reports.
Drawing on your extensive experience, to offer expert advice to other engineers, including supporting the training and development of engineers through formal and informal mentoring to become future systems engineers.
Experience & Skills
Systems Engineering Degree Bachelor, Masters (desirable), or demonstrable equivalent.
Chartered Engineer registered or working towards (essential)
Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) qualified (desirable)
Experience
More than 10 years’ experience of practical application of best-practice Systems Engineering in a relatable engineering industry (essential).
Practical experience in implementing a 'Systems Engineering' approach into a business (essential).
Experience of recruiting, interviewing, and hiring Systems Engineers from an internal talent pool of non-Systems Engineers as well as external for experienced hiring (essential).
Experience of tutoring / instructing best-practice Systems Engineering (essential).
Significant experience and understanding of working in a regulated, compliance-driven industry (essential) such as the semiconductor manufacturing equipment industry (desirable) incl. product safety and compliance to applicable standards (essential)
Skills
