Band 5 or Band 6 Biomedical Scientist in Cellular Pathology
The Histopathology Department is a nationally recognized laboratory in the field of orthopaedic pathology, providing a specialised orthopaedic and musculoskeletal histopathology service, including provision of a primary bone and soft tissue sarcoma diagnostic service and a diagnostic muscle biopsy service. Over 2000 surgical examinations are carried out each year.
We are looking to recruit to our small team of Specialist BMS’s. We have a Band 6 opportunity and are seeking a qualified HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist who holds a specialist portfolio in cellular pathology gained through the necessary years of experience within a cellular pathology laboratory and has competency within dissection and immunohistochemistry.
We would also consider candidates who do not hold a specialist portfolio in cellular pathology to be appointed to a Band 5 job description (with reduced responsibilities and experience requirements). This role would give the opportunity to gain experience in this specialist area of pathology with potential for regrading of the role in the future on achievement of the specialist portfolio required.
Banding subject to agenda for change evaluation.
The Biomedical Scientist will be able to evidence a portfolio of competency and experience in histopathology gained through their previous employment. Technical investigations carried out include the full repertoire of routine analysis in addition to specialist investigation work including:
* Enzyme histochemistry
* Immunohistochemistry
* Urgent frozen sections
* Specimen photography
* Digital scanning of slides
* Biobank
* EM processing
You will have the opportunity to fully participate in all areas of service development and delivery and grow your leadership skills for future career development. The department currently holds ISO 15189:2012 Accreditation.
