Key accountabilities:
1. Vehicle Maintenance: Carry out routine maintenance tasks, inspections, and repairs on heavy goods vehicles.
2. Attending Breakdowns where necessary.
3. Prep and present vehicles for annual test.
4. Manage your own workload ensuring maximum vehicle uptime.
5. Diagnostic Procedures: Diagnose, identify and troubleshoot mechanical issues on vehicle and body systems.
6. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of repairs, services, and parts used in the maintenance database.
7. Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines during all maintenance procedures.
Areas of responsibility:
1. Perform routine maintenance.
2. Electrical and engine troubleshooting and diagnostics.
3. Engine and transmission repairs.
4. Perform incidental welding operations and other mechanical repair work as required.
5. Perform inspections and test mechanical units.
6. Diagnose faults and malfunctions.
7. Adjust, repair and/or replace parts and components of transport systems.
8. Provide training and advice to apprentices and co-workers as required.
9. Ability to use power and hand tools related to motor vehicle service and repair.
10. Be able to work shift work and extra hours as required to keep up with business demands.
Experience and Skills:
1. Qualified Heavy Goods Vehicle Mechanic (HGV Mechanic).
2. Minimum 3 years post apprenticeship experience in HGV maintenance and repair.
3. High degree of product and technical knowledge.
4. Strong diagnostics capabilities with good computer skills.
5. Must be organized & self-motivated with strong written and verbal communication skills.
6. Motivated team player with a strong sense of commitment to the team.
7. Ability to understand and carry out instructions via written, verbal, or diagram form.
8. Knowledge of waste collection vehicles preferred.
