We are a very busy and expanding department with exciting opportunities to develop within your role.
The Post holder, after the necessary training and induction, will be an integral member of the ophthalmic technical service, ensuring the effective and efficient maintenance of a comprehensive patient pathway. They should have the ability to work independently as well as working closely with other members of the team. The post holder will be a key member of staff in participating in the development of care of patients attending the ophthalmic department. They are responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of service users, and always working in a manner that promotes the dignity and human rights of patients and clients.
This post covers 7 days (Monday to Sunday).
Main duties of the job
* To assist and support registered staff in the delivery of high quality, individualised, dignified and compassionate care to patients.
* To contribute to the effective running of the department by concentrating on tasks that directly support the needs of the patient and assists their journey, prioritising on patients as required.
* To work under the supervision of a registered healthcare practitioner at all times, working within the parameters of their competence, communicating and documenting appropriate and relevant information to other members of the multi-disciplinary team in a professional timely manner.
* The ability to work to a high standard at all times, influencing and role modelling patient centred care.
* To monitor patient condition through the use of vital signs and escalating to the Registered Nurse any abnormalities. To accurately/legibly document care delivery within the patients Nursing notes.

Qualifications
* Educated to NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care level or equivalent level of education, training or experience.
Knowledge & Experience
* Experience in ophthalmology and hospital setting
* Venepuncture
* Visual acuity using Snellen and Logmar
* Performing visual fields, OCT Macular OCT Disc and OCTA, Tonometry, fundus photos
* Safeguarding children and adults and the completion of PLF
* Working as part of a team and independently
Skills
* Ophthalmic IT systems
* Good written and verbal communication skills
* Learning disabilities awareness
* The ability to accurately/legibly document care that have been delivered within the patients case notes
* Able to prioritise attention to patients delegated from registered nurse
* Deal with distressed patients and their carers
