Do you have a passion for making a difference in the lives of young learners facing emotional and social challenges? GSL Education is on the lookout for a compassionate and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant (Primary) to support students in a nurturing school environment in Ashington.
About the Role
As a SEMH TA, you'll work closely with primary-aged students who experience Social, Emotional, and Mental Health difficulties. Your support will be crucial in helping them build emotional regulation, self-confidence, and positive learning behaviours.
What You'll Be Doing
1. Provide 1:1 and small group support for children with SEMH needs
2. Assist in creating and implementing individual learning and behaviour plans
3. Help students manage emotions and develop social skills
4. Maintain a structured, calming, and inclusive classroom environment
5. Deliver targeted interventions focusing on emotional wellbeing
6. Track student progress and support their development journey
7. Foster positive student-staff relationships built on trust and respect
Ideal Candidate Will Have
1. A qualification in Education, Psychology, or similar (CACHE Level 3/NVQ desirable)
2. Experience with SEMH students in schools, alternative provision, or youth work
3. Understanding of primary education and adapting lessons for individual needs
4. Skills in behaviour management, de-escalation, and trauma-informed approaches
5. Patience, empathy, resilience, and a positive mindset
6. Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
7. A fully updated CV with no unexplained employment gaps
