The Brighton and Hove clinic is a specialist inpatient eating disorder unit for children and adolescents.
Reporting directly to the Consultant Clinical Psychologist, you will be responsible for the delivery of evidence-based individual and group interventions, diagnostic and cognitive assessments, MDT working and risk assessments. You will also facilitate staff reflective practice sessions and be requested to design and deliver training to the multi-disciplinary team.
As a Psychologist, you will have experience and knowledge in carrying a therapy caseload, including assessing complex needs and designing and delivering specialist psychological treatments to support individualised patient care plans.

As an Clinical Psychologist you will be:
1. Providing specialist psychological assessments, and individualised evidence-based psychological interventions for patients with severe eating disorders and complex mental health difficulties.
2. Providing evidence-based and formulation-driven psychological perspectives to multidisciplinary risk management, care planning and decision-making.
3. Managing a complex caseload as an individual psychological therapist working within a multidisciplinary team, in addition to facilitating group psychological interventions and family/systemic interventions.
4. Monitoring clinical progress through regular reviews of psychological treatment.
5. Providing high-quality clinical supervision to junior members of the psychology team.
6. Supporting staff development through the provision of training, consultation, formulation meetings and reflective practice sessions.
7. Contributing to service developments within the therapies team and wider service.
8. Receiving regular supervision and line management from the Regional Therapies Lead/Consultant Clinical Psychologist.
9. Being professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of clinical work and care.
10. Maintaining high standards of care in all areas of practice and in accordance the HCPC Code of Conduct, professional guidelines and Company Policies and Procedures.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
11. Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology (or equivalent if trained overseas).
12. Registration with the HCPC as a practitioner psychologist.
13. We will also consider applicants from newly qualified clinical/counselling psychologists, or from those who are about to qualify (please clearly state in the application when you will receive HCPC registration).
14. Knowledge and understanding of eating disorders and related comorbidities (e.g. anxiety, trauma, depression, self-harm), and the impact these on both children and adolescents, and their families.
15. Prior experience in eating disorders is desirable but not essential for this position. Experience working with patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder, neurodivergence, trauma and personality disorders is also desirable.
16. Post qualification training in the specialist application of therapeutic models relevant for working with children and adolescents with eating disorders and other comorbidities (or for newly qualified psychologists an interest in undertaking further specialist training).
17. Experience of supervising and training junior members of the team.
18. Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for patient’s psychological care and treatment as a qualified professional within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan.

Brighton & Hove Clinic provides a CAMHS Tier 4 eating disorder service for young people aged 12 to 18 years with a primary diagnosis of an eating disorder: or those with eating difficulties with other co-occurring conditions such as depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder or self-harm. Our patients can also present with co-morbid attachment difficulties, ASC (both diagnosed and undiagnosed) and with emotion regulation difficulties. We provide individualised and formulation driven treatment programmes to support children and adolescents to begin their recovery and transition safely back into the community. Interventions include individual therapy, systemic family therapy, occupational therapy, therapeutic and activity groups, meal support sessions and a psychoeducational family support group.
The role is an exciting opportunity to join an established and passionate psychology team, whilst also contributing to the development of an individualised and patient-centred service committed to improving clinical practice and effectiveness. The successful candidate will also join a network of eating disorder therapists working across Elysium providing access to CPD, training and peer supervision.
