Freshsteps Independent School is seeking to appoint a passionate and experienced Primary Teacher to join our vibrant and nurturing team. This is a fantastic opportunity to teach in an OFSTED-rated Outstanding setting, delivering high-impact lessons to a small group of pupils with SEMH needs.
About the School
Freshsteps is a specialist independent school for pupils aged 5–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Our provision has been judged Outstanding by OFSTED in 2017, 2020 and 2024. We have recently expanded our site and facilities, including a sixth form hub, sports arena, therapeutic soft-play area, gym, and a fully resourced library.
About the Role
We are looking for a dedicated Primary Teacher to lead a small, mixed-ability class of up to 6 pupils, supported by at least one experienced teaching assistant.
At Freshsteps, we operate mixed year groups per class (e.g., Year 1 & 2, Year 3 & 4), with teaching pitched appropriately to meet individual academic levels and EHCP needs. Lessons are highly differentiated and delivered through a nurture-based, hands-on approach.
* Start Date: Immediate
* Curriculum Focus: Core primary subjects with creative, practical delivery
* Environment: Calm, structured, therapeutic classrooms with strong behaviour support
* Pupil Profile: KS1 or KS2 (depending on class), all with EHCPs and SEMH/SEND diagnoses

We are seeking a confident, resilient classroom practitioner who:
* Has proven experience teaching primary pupils with SEMH and/or SEND
* Is comfortable planning for mixed year groups and differentiating effectively
* Uses a nurturing approach with excellent behaviour management
* Can build strong relationships and promote positive learning habits
* Enjoys working collaboratively and contributing to a team
* Has good knowledge of the national curriculum and interventions
* Thrives in a supportive, creative, and forward-thinking environment
This role is not suitable for Early Career Teachers (NQTs).
