If successful you will be working alongside our 17 Consultants in Emergency Medicine, 5 Specialist in Emergency Medicine and a strong team of 35 plus fellow Speciality Doctors and Speciality Trainees providing clinical services to the Mansfield, Ashfield, Newark, and surrounding areas in Nottinghamshirefrom two trust sites, King’s Mill Hospital in Sutton-in-Ashfield, and Newark Hospital in Newark.
Under the supervision of the Consultant in Emergency Medicine provide to the care of patients in the department with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness or injury.
From a clinical perspective these posts will participate in the 24 hour Emergency Department rota.
You must hold full registration with the GMC and hold a licence to practice.
You will be fully supported in your day to day working within a team where we have a full complement of substantive Registered Nurses, Health Care Assistants and Admin and Clerical staff. We also have a highly motivated team of Advanced Clinical Practitioners and Emergency Nurse Practitioners.
A multi award winning team (HSJ Winner for Emergency Care in 2017, 1stplace in the Royal College of Emergency Medicine, Improvement Project of the Year 2018, HSJ Patient Safety shortlist for the Best Partnership Solution for improving patient safety in 2019), who were graded as Outstanding for Leadership in the latest Care Quality Commission assessment in 2018. Consistently providing examples of best practice and excellence, the team is proud to have been featured in several NHSI and ECIST information videos. We perform well against the 4-hour and Ambulance Turn Around targets are consistently within the top 20 Trust’s nationally for our performance.
We are level 2 trauma unit and contribute to the regional trauma network. We run a single front door model where we have a 24/7 co-located primary care service, where we stream circa 20-22% of attendances from ED to primary care. A fully integrated frailty and discharge service at our front door, including therapy, social care. We have a new built Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC) service running 7am – midnight 7 days each week which supports Emergency Department with several pathways supporting admission avoidance, improving flow throughout the organisation. We have highly regarded High Intensity Service User programme that’s led by Nurse Specialists and supported with Consultant input to work with patients who frequently attend ED with aim in reducing the frequency of use.
In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to play a full part in the out-of-hours On-Call service for the emergency department.
Referral of patients to appropriate in-patient facilities as appropriate.
Involvement in Emergency Medicine multi-disciplinary teams and meetings.
Out -patient programmed activities depending on the needs of patients.
Teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and nursing staff as appropriate.
Involvement in relevant administration duties (e.g. in rota schedules).
Active involvement in audit, clinical governance and the development of departmental policies.
Play an active role in the day-to-day management and administration of the Emergency Department.
