An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably experienced Specialty Doctor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to join our team in Mersey & West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.
This post will be split between our sites in Ormskirk and St Helens with clinical sessions in both hospitals.
The departments operate as spokes of the Regional Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Hub based in Aintree who provide the Service’s consultants.
The post holder will be professionally accountable to the clinical lead in Maxillofacial Surgery (Hub Consultant) and will report to the Divisional Director for Surgery.
This post will support the delivery of the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery service by conducting outpatient clinics (including the management of 2ww referrals) and any required treatments within the oral surgery minor operating suite.
Applicants must have a Registerable Dental qualification and Full registration with the General Dental Council. MFDS /MJDFS or equivalent, with significant experience as a LAS or equivalent in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Registration as a Specialist in Oral Surgery with the General Dental Council or a formal qualification in conscious sedation are all desirable but not essential.
Duties and Responsibilities
The job plan will be subject to change with the agreement of the post holder, together with the Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and the Head of Department.
The post holder will supervise, providing support and collaboration with other practitioners, as agreed to be appropriate.
So far as is consistent with the proper discharge of the designated duties of the post holder, he/she should undertake to deputise, from time to time, for absent colleagues.
The post holder undertakes to perform additional duties in unforeseen
emergencies/circumstances, being both flexible and available for such irregular commitments, outside normal duties, as are essential for continuity of patient care. This post has no timetabled on-call commitments.

Our inpatient unit at Newton Community Hospital is where patients needing acute hospital beds can continue rehabilitation, freeing up space for more unwell patients. We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.
Specialist Regional Services
We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.
