We are looking to appoint to a whole-time General Consultant Anaesthetist to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.
Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job
The appointee will, together with Consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of anaesthetic services to the Trust.
RESPONSIBILITIES1. Provide safe, evidence-based medicine.2. Pursue continuous improvement in the quality of care that we provide.3. Ensure we work to the PROUD Behaviours values, with the patient at the heart of what we do.4. Provide an outstanding environment for our junior doctors to train.5. Maintain skills and update knowledge base meeting the Continuing Education and Professional Development requirements of the Royal College of Anaesthetists.6. Actively participate in the QI and audit ambitions of the Department.7. Participate in the RHH General on-call rota (and any iteration of the General on-call rota that may arise in future) at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. 8. Be prepared to work on all sites where elective surgical work is undertaken. The majority of this takes place at RHH and NGH. Lists will only be on one site on a given day.9. The successful candidate would inevitably have responsibility for resource utilisation and would be expected to be aware of and take part in the Directorate business planning process which governs new developments.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered (or eligible to be registered) with the GMC with a licence to practise.
* Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview. If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
* Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists or equivalent.
* MD or PhD or equivalent

* Completion and publication of a substantive audit project or service improvement project.
Personal attributes
* Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD Behaviour values.
* The applicant must demonstrate skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking the English language that enables effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues as set out in the GMC' good medical practice (2013).
Management and Administration
* Evidence of the understanding of the systems and structures of NHS Management.
Continuous Professional Development
* Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months.
* Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio.
* Evidence of ATLS/ALS qualification or equivalent.
Teaching and training
* Experience of teaching student doctors and doctors in training at all levels.
* Evidence of activity in regional or national educational events
* Higher teaching degree or qualification or training.
Research
* Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate.
* Publications within the past 5 years in peer reviewed journals.
* Presentation within the past 5 years at a national/international forum.
* Higher research degree or qualification or training.
Clinical Experience
* Appropriate training and experience in general anaesthesia.
* Experience in other aspects of patient care, eg Pre-Op Assessment, Acute Pain, PACU
