The Role
The Field Engineer is a hands-on technical contributor responsible for diagnosing and resolving vehicle software and hardware issues to keep the fleet operational. They will play a critical role in rapid fault triage, ensuring a 5-minute response time while strictly adhering to safety protocols. Working closely with fellow engineers and global teams, they will contribute to seamless operations through effective communication and problem solving. As part of a newly established function within Fleet Operations, the Field Engineer will help refine processes and drive efficiency in a fast-paced, high-impact environment.
Key responsibilities:
* Perform on-site fault triage and resolution, diagnosing and repairing vehicle software and hardware issues quickly to maintain fleet uptime.
* Follow structured fault diagnosis and repair protocols, ensuring all work is carried out efficiently and in alignment with operational workflows.
* Collaborate with fellow field engineers and cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues effectively.
* Respond rapidly to issues, meeting the 5-minute issue response to keep vehicles operational and our teams feeling adequately supported.
* Maintain clear communication with the Field Engineering Lead, providing updates on ongoing repairs and ensuring smooth handovers across geographical locations.
* Participate in on-call rotations, assisting with technical support and issue resolution across multiple regions as part of a 24/7 global support network.
* Adhere to strict safety and compliance protocols, ensuring all fault triage, diagnosis, and repairs follow the correct procedures and approvals.
* Contribute to continuous improvement efforts, identifying operational challenges and providing feedback to optimize field engineering support and efficiency.
About you
In order to set you up for success as a Field Engineer at Wayve, we’re looking for the following skills and experience.
Essential
* Technical Expertise – Strong understanding of vehicle diagnostics, software and hardware fault triage, and repair processes. Experience in fleet operations, automotive systems, or ADAS technology is a plus.
* Problem-Solving & Efficiency – Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues quickly, meeting strict SLAs (5-minute response time) to keep vehicles operational.
* Communication & Collaboration – Capable of working closely with global teams, providing clear technical updates, and ensuring smooth handovers across locations.
* Safety & Compliance – Deep understanding of safety protocols, incident management, and adherence to operational procedures to ensure secure and effective repairs.
* Adaptability & Flexibility – Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment, including participation in on-call rotations and weekend coverage as needed.
* Technical Tools & Platforms – Familiarity with diagnostic tools, software monitoring platforms (e.g., Datadog, Mender), and ticketing systems like JIRA.
Desirable:
* Knowledge of ADAS technology and on-road testing requirements is highly advantageous.
