An opportunity has arisen for a talented accountant to join Breedon’s group finance team based at Breedon-on-the-Hill, near East Midlands Airport.
Breedon Group plc a FTSE 250 construction materials group in Great Britain, Ireland and the United States employing around 4,500 people. It operates two cement plants and an extensive network of quarries, asphalt plants and ready-mixed concrete plants, together with slate production, concrete and clay products manufacturing, contract surfacing and highway maintenance operations.
The Group is highly acquisitive and the role would be involved in accounting for any business transactions correctly. In 2020 it completed the £178 million acquisition of trade and assets from Cemex which follows £455 million acquisition of Lagan Group in 2018 and the £336 million acquisition of Hope Construction Products in 2016, alongside various smaller transactions. In March 2024, Breedon expanded into the USA with the acquisition of BMC Enterprises Inc for USD$300 million. In March 2025, Breedon expanded further into the US market with the acquisition of Lionmark Construction Companies LLC for USD$238 million.
Key Responsibilities
* Support on system improvement initiatives to develop IBM Consolidation and Financial porting;
* Provide support for month end consolidation of group management accounts;
* Support on the Group Forecasting and Budgeting Processes including any improvement activity;
* Drive insight and challenge into the business through ad hoc analysis, such as commercial analysis and deep dives;
* Provide support in relation to internal management reporting and development of new reports/analysis;
* Provide management accounting support for central companies;
* Complete VAT returns for central companies;
* Administer the capex approval system on for the Group;
* Support on any analysis needed at half year or year end such as data books;
* Line manage 1 direct report (Assistant Accountant)
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
* Qualified accountant
* An excellent communicator, both written and verbal
* Eye for detail
* Adopts a ‘can do’ attitude and works well with others in a team environment
* Ability to deliver work to deadlines and organise/prioritise workload
* Strong IT skills
* Analytical mindset
* Line management experience preferred
