This post has been devised to support the surgical team that currently delivers specialist services to patients in South West London, and supra-regional specialist services for patients from the South and South East of England. The successful applicant will be a newly qualified surgeon and will contribute specifically to colorectal cancer surgery.
Main duties of the job
* To participate in and support the multidisciplinary care team which includes Medical Oncologists, Surgeons, the relevant junior team, Specialist Nursing Staff, Therapists, Dietician, Social worker, Palliative Care and Psychological Support;
* To undertake outpatient clinics, surgery and peri-operative care of patients with colorectal cancer.
* To participate in the colorectal specialist multidisciplinary meeting.
* To participate in a General Surgery Consultants on-call rota.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full and specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC).
* If an applicant is UK trained, they must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT).
* If an applicant is non-UK trained, they will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
* JAG certification for lower GI endoscopy. Full certification for flexible sigmoidoscopy, provisional or full certification for colonoscopy.
* Higher research degree (PhD or equivalent).
Experience
* Motivated to ensure the achievement of defined targets.
* Extensive clinical experience in the surgery of colorectal cancer, including management of advanced colorectal cancer (e.g. beyond TME surgery, pelvic exenterations, synchronous colorectal and liver resections).
* Organisation of education and training of junior doctors and/or undergraduates, specialty trainees and other health care professionals. Participate in surgical training.
* Undertaken personal research in colorectal surgery with resultant publications in peer reviewed journals and presentation at international meetings.
* Robotic surgical experience.
* Experience in initiating and supervising research by others, and have successfully obtained research funding.
* Experience in clinical management roles.
* Ability to establish and work well with teams both clinically and in research.
* Enthusiastic and motivated.
* Effective communication.
* Committed to personal development.
