Hybrid working within this role enables a balance of 50 per cent of time split between the office and home over a 4-week period. Hybrid working arrangements can evolve subject to business requirements.
Overview of role
Digital Engineering plays a key role in modernising the way Transport for London assets are operated and maintained. Our expertise is called upon to develop new and innovative ways of managing our assets to deliver against our asset strategies, maintenance regimes, engineering strategies and drive us towards our vision of becoming a data-driven organisation.
We strive to digitalise whole life asset management through the application of data, technology, and improved processes, to improve delivery efficiency and embed new, and more effective ways of working into the organisation. We are continuously innovating, problem solving and working in ambiguity to drive the business forwards.
We are looking for a Senior Engineer Leader to lead our Building Information Modelling (BIM) team within TfL Engineering.
Reporting to the Head of Digital Engineering, the role holder will be responsible for:
* Accelerating the implementation of BIM methodology across the whole asset lifecycle and the subsequent knowledge, skills, and capability improvement required across all modes within TfL.
* Providing assurance to the Head of Function on alignment to industry best practice, maturity of BIM implementation and digital engineering application, and benefits realised.
* Developing the team’s capability, capacity, and workload assignments.
* Ensuring the consistent application of the BIM requirements, processes, standards, and specifications across TfL.
* Championing BIM and digital engineering integration and innovations that deliver greater benefits and efficiencies through their application on projects and through the asset management lifecycle.
* Providing support to the development and implementation of digital and data-related programmes and strategies across TfL, most notably the Pan-TfL Data Strategy and the Digitising Asset Management programme.
* Applying leadership, advice, and expertise to senior internal and external stakeholders, interpreting technical strategy and company policy to satisfy business requirements.
* Applying commercial thinking to the development and implementation of solutions and deliver the right outcomes for the business.
* Demonstrating strong personal behaviours necessary to deliver successful outcomes, in particular: collaboration, influence, communication & stakeholder management.
Skill, Knowledge, and Experience
Skills:
* Ability to lead, motivate and inspire team members working within a matrix organisation ensuring that the team delivers high-quality outputs whilst developing the team and individual’s capabilities.
* Ability to build effective working relationships, with people at all levels across the organisation and externally and influence to drive true change.
* Ability to think strategically – making connections within and outside the organisation, communicating with and developing these connections to enable the best outcome for the business.
* Ability to identify the need for change, initiate and implement change.
Knowledge:
* Thorough knowledge of the application of BIM and information management principles in organisations as defined in the BS EN ISO 19650 framework.
* Working knowledge of Digital Engineering products.
* Working knowledge of data/information exchange protocols, open-source file formats (preferably Industry Foundation Classes (IFC)) and data dictionaries desirable.
Experience:
* Extensive experience in the implementation, application and support of ISO 19650 methodology and processes, digital engineering tools and collaborative practices on major projects and maintenance organisations.
* Experience in the functional management and the development of high-performing teams through effective leadership, performance management, development, and empowerment of staff, whilst role modelling the corporate / TfL Behaviours.
* Experience of building relationships with and influencing a wide range of stakeholders at all levels within and outside the organisation.
* Experience in the application of open-source file formats/schema (preferably IFC) and data dictionary development.
