Job Summary
Undertakes the provision of nursing care with support from senior colleagues. May develop the skills and competencies to perform additional skills. Will assist in the supervision of junior nursing staff and, where applicable, the teaching of learner nurses. Will be required to participate in the implementation of audit and quality initiatives. Acts in a manner that upholds the values to the Trust and that of the profession.
Main duties of the job
1. Responsibility for ensuring commitment to maintaining a high quality of service to patients by continual development of practice in the light of research evidence and by audit against clinically relevant standards.
2. Participate, as directed by Senior Sister, in audit and benchmarking activity of clinical care within the ward.
3. Adhere to the Trust complaint procedure with regard to written and verbal complaints, using appropriate referral mechanisms in order to resolve the situation and/or in conjunction with PALS officer.
4. Suggest and implement approved improvements to services while exercising professional responsibility for both themselves and their peers within an open 'just and fair' culture.
CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Responsible and accountable for assessing, planned implementation and evaluation of nursing care using a patient-centred approach to meet the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs.
2. Accountable and responsible for accurate and legible record keeping in accordance with the local policies with due regard to NMC guidelines.
3. Act as a point of liaison for multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working in order to achieve the best possible outcome for patient care.
