Inventya is one of the North West delivery partners of Innovate UK Business Growth, supporting Innovate UK’s strategy to help some of the most ambitious innovative SMEs to grow and scale. As part of this programme, Inventya is seeking to recruit an Ecosystem Innovation Growth Specialist to join the Team on a full-time, permanent basis.
This role is a key part of delivering Innovate UK Business Growth strategic funding & finance support to SMEs. This is an opportunity for a high calibre, experienced business professional to directly contribute to driving business innovation and growth in the UK.
The role will identify ambitious high growth innovative SMEs and support them in accelerating their journey to significantly grow and scale. The role will require experience and knowledge of the strategic funding and finance needs of innovative high growth potential companies to help them become investment ready and harness their growth and scaling potential.
You will work closely with businesses to help them fully understand the financial options appropriate to support their growth by providing advice and mentoring and harnessing the regional ecosystem, in particular funding and financial institutions.
The role will also play an important role in driving the Innovate UK “Place” agenda acting as an interface with accelerators, launchpads, Freeports and other regional clusters.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide tailored specialist financial support and advice to SMEs on a one-to-one basis.
2. Support SME clients to gain an understanding of the innovation and commercial finance ecosystem.
3. Collaborate with the regional ecosystem to form alliances and relationships that will help innovative businesses identify commercial opportunities and sources of finance.
4. Upskill clients on best practice related to raising finance.
5. Deliver, facilitate and attend workshops and events to promote client success and the impact of Innovate UK Business Growth. This may include attending occasional national/international conferences and exhibitions and possibly supporting client companies with their national/international missions.
6. Work in alliance/collaboratively with other local and national Funding and Finance initiatives to ensure consistency in the delivery of the broader Innovate UK offer.
Requirements
About You:
1. A senior professional having grown their own business and/or worked in a senior position in a corporate or ambitious SME environment.
2. Experience of implementing finance strategies and fundraising.
3. Experience / understanding of private and public capital markets, IPOs, M&A etc.
4. Good awareness of the benefit of the use of debt, equity, grants and of leveraging multiple support schemes, such as Patent Box, R&D tax credits, invoice finance, financial guarantees, etc.
5. Well-connected and networked with an extensive book of contacts in the North West.
6. Self-motivated and results driven with a meticulous focus on quality.
7. A strong project and time manager, with concomitant communication, facilitation and presentation skills.
8. Experience of commercialising and launching new innovations.
9. Capable of helping clients accelerate entry in new markets.
10. Understand what is required to help SMEs meet the requirements of large companies and their supply chains.
11. Have exceptional networking, business development and sales skills.
12. A good understanding of structuring businesses for successful growth e.g. group structures.
