This role will mainly focus on gas turbine and airbreathing technologies in support of a number of assessment and development programmes, working alongside current Technical Experts. The tasks can include feasibility studies, system specification and design, trade-off studies, liaison with suppliers, and development of modelling techniques. Our team engages with the missile architects, aerodynamicists and other propulsion engineers to develop the best propulsion system for the application.
Job Title: Propulsion Engineer
Salary: Circa £55,000 depending on experience
Location: Bristol (or Stevenage) (We may be able to offer a relocation package for this role)
Dynamic (hybrid) working: 3 days per week on-site depending on workload classification
Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship. Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.
The opportunity:
We have an opportunity for an experienced propulsion engineer to join the Propulsion Department. Our team delivers propulsion system assessment, requirements and supplier engagement across a range of defence projects. This role will mainly focus on gas turbine and airbreathing technologies in support of a number of assessment and development programmes, working alongside current Technical Experts. The tasks can include feasibility studies, propulsion system specification and design, trade-off studies, liaison with suppliers, and development of modelling techniques. Our team engages with the missile architects, aerodynamicists and other propulsion engineers to specify and deliver the best propulsion system for the application in conjunction with our suppliers.

What we're looking for from you:
1. An appropriate good Degree or Masters e.g. Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or equivalent experience.
2. Knowledge of propulsion system design and performance assessment.
3. A working knowledge of at least one propulsion performance modelling tool.
4. An ability to develop concept design solutions with limited information and changing requirements.
5. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work with, influence and negotiate with stakeholders across the business.
6. The skills to engage with suppliers and design authorities to achieve project goals.
7. Positive collaborative behaviours and be a team player.
8. Knowledge of airframe or engine fuel systems and fuels is an advantage.
