The Senior Geophysical Engineer is a critical role within the Offshore Renewables Business, focusing on the delivery of large-scale global offshore wind projects.
The Senior Geophysical Engineer role sits in the Ground Engineering Team within the Site Engineering Department and reports to the Ground Engineering Discipline Manager.
The successful candidate will work across the ScottishPower and global Iberdrola portfolio. As part of the ground engineering team, they will provide geophysical support and expertise to offshore wind farm developments at all stages in the life cycle, from development to operation.
What you’ll be doing:
* Manage site investigation activities from a geophysical engineering perspective across the offshore project portfolio, covering the life cycle of the project from early-stage project development through to operation and maintenance.
* Support and lead the development of survey strategy, survey duration and cost estimates, and survey and consultancy scopes of work.
* Overall responsibility for the successful delivery of geophysical surveys, including managing the Owner’s Engineer who performs the survey management.
* Support tendering and contractual negotiations for geophysical surveys and consultancy work ensuring appropriate risk management.
* Through geophysics, ensure that ground engineering risks on projects are identified and mitigated.
* Provide technical support and advice on survey and equipment types to be used for all survey campaigns across the business.
* Manage and support ground model development activities for engineering design and installation purposes.
* Provide geophysical support and advice to different packages and stakeholders including transport and installation, cables, foundations, development, operations, and maintenance.
* Ensure compliance with industry guidelines and best practices, and awareness of suppliers and latest developments in technology.
* Support innovation projects on behalf of the company.
* Support the delivery of multi-contract packages within time, to budget and to a high quality.
* Support the development, maintenance and modification of geophysical related standard documentation and procedures.
* Ensure lessons learnt regarding offshore geophysics are captured, shared and solutions applied across different projects.
* Support junior engineers and placement students.
What you’ll bring:
* Educated to degree level in a relevant geophysical, geological or highly relevant discipline.
* Excellent experience in a variety of geophysical survey methods, including offshore acquisition.
* Excellent experience in the interpretation of geophysical datasets.
* Experience of ground model development using geophysical datasets.
* Excellent experience of planning, managing and executing offshore geophysical site investigations for large scale projects.
* Knowledge of and/or experience engaging with stakeholders of an offshore wind farm development.
* Experience in balancing technical, commercial and programme requirements.
* Knowledge and/or experience of the integration of geotechnical and geophysical data.
* Experience with geophysical software tools (e.g. Kingdom, Oasis Montaj, SonarWiz and GIS).
* Experience in influencing and developing key project and business decisions.
* Experience supporting global teams and decision-making processes.
* Experience communicating effectively within a diverse team.
* Pro-active and diligent approach. Innovative and creative thinker.
* Excellent knowledge of industry codes and standards and offshore regulations.
* Experience in dealing with health, safety and environmental legislation.
* Excellent ability in document writing in English and formatting.
* IT literate with the ability to operate MS Office systems.
* Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
