Job overview
Are you passionate about delivering high quality care within a surgical environment and do you love working with a great team? If the answer is yes then this may be the role for you!
We are looking for a dynamic and experienced individual to lead the team on our busy Colorectal and general surgical ward. The ward specialises in caring for patients undergoing complex colorectal surgery as well as caring for emergency admissions for general surgical, urology, ENT and gynae patients. The ward plays an integral part within the trust emergency surgical pathway.
The right candidate will need to have extensive relevant clinical experience and a clear focus on ensuring patients receive specialist high quality care at all times. The role involves leading and managing a well established team as well as providing clinical expertise and working clinically on the ward.
This role is to cover maternity leave for 12 months and so a secondment or fixed term contract will be considered.
Main duties of the job
* Having continuing responsibility for the 24 hour management of the ward and delivery of patient care.
* To have responsibility for the line management of all ward based nursing and support staff
* To promote continuous development in clinical practice and delivery of patient care, encouraging innovation, improvement and appropriate change in service delivery.
* To manage resources within agreed budget.
* To provide a suitable and stimulating learning environment for students and for the ongoing professional development of registered staff.
* To maintain communication networks at all appropriate clinical and managerial levels.
Working for our organisation
There’s never been a more exciting time to join TeamQEH. We’re working on a once in a generation opportunity to build a new state-of-the-art hospital to open in 2030 and we are also carrying out on one of the biggest pieces of digital transformation work we’ve ever undertaken.
Our new electronic patient record (EPR) will replace paper-based patient records from 2026 and will lead to better, safer, joined-up care at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and beyond.
At The QEH we provide a comprehensive range of specialist, acute, obstetrics and community-based services to around 331,000 people across west and north Norfolk, North Cambs and South Lincs.
We are an ambitious organisation that upholds our values of kindness, wellness and fairness. We strive for continuous quality improvement, recently demonstrated in our 2024 CQC maternity inspection rating our services as ‘Good’, and we are proud to be a place to learn and grow through recognised learning and apprenticeships.
We recognise and reward our 4,000 staff and volunteers, priding ourselves on a community atmosphere and positive team spirit. We have approx. 530 beds across 33 wards and have newly built education and training facilities, a range of modern award-winning centres alongside a talented team of people ready to give you a warm welcome.
