We are looking to recruit enthusiastic individuals who are looking to advance their leadership and management skills within our complex orthopaedic theatre teams.
The post holder will take responsibility for the Theatre Scrub Team in the absence of the Band 7 Manager, who has continuing 24-hour responsibility. They will hold responsibility for staff management in the absence of the Theatre Manager.

Job responsibilities
* Be accountable and responsible for maintaining own nursing practice.
* Assess, plan, advise, implement and evaluate care of the surgical patient, maintaining own specialist knowledge and clinical skills.
* Assist the Scrub Manager in the provision of clinical and professional advice, expertise, support, developing practice and monitoring performance.
* Ensure the safety of patients, including delegation of patient care to nurses with the appropriate level of skill at all times.
* Report any accidents/incidents to the Scrub Manager or Divisional Matron.
* Ensure that nursing and medical procedures are implemented and maintained in accordance with the policies of the Trust.
* Daily input and retrieve patient information appropriate to the Unit from the Trust Information Technology Systems.
* Use audit, personal observation and critical incident data to assist the team in identifying priorities for education and training of unit staff.
* Participate in formal teaching for qualified and unqualified nursing staff on a regular basis.
* Maintain a wide knowledge of current nursing and related practice by reading relevant journals and attending study days where appropriate.
* Facilitate effective communication between all disciplines involved in the care of the patient.
* Participate in research, evaluation and implementation of new techniques within patient care.
* Maintain accurate records at all times, ensuring appropriate reporting mechanisms are used.
* Order and maintain adequate stocks of supplies and provisions within the department.
* Maintain good relations and communication with other departments and multidisciplinary teams.
* Participate in audit and research studies analysing data to enhance and inform patient care.
* Comply with Trust policies and regulations, and attend compulsory training as instructed.
* Ensure effective communication to foster excellent relationships between clinicians, allied health care professionals, patients and relatives.
* Maintain own specialist knowledge and clinical skills, participating in direct patient care.
* Undertake quality initiatives through regular research and audit.
* Accountable for the safe use of medical devices for all personnel within the Theatre Scrub Team.
* Responsible for the clinical supervision of all staff working within the Theatre Scrub Team.
* Participate in resource management and the employment of appropriate management information systems.
* Responsible for the collation of the unit's audit data as directed by the Unit manager.
* Maintain patient records to ensure information is accurate and up to date for future reference.
* Provide effective Leadership for the nursing and administrative team and act as a role model.
* Provide adequate Mentorship/Training for untrained and student visitors to the unit.
* Provide effective support mechanisms to staff, relatives and patients during stressful circumstances.
* Responsible for COSHH within the Theatre Scrub Team and promoting a safe environment for staff, patients and visitors.
Person Specification
Qualifications/Training
* Registered Nurse with NMC or ODP with HCPC Nursing Degree/Diploma or ODP qualification.
* Orthopaedic Nursing Certificate/Leadership course/1st Assistant Qualification.
Experience
* Proven Band 5 or equivalent experience in a perioperative setting.
* Previous Band 6 or equivalent experience in a perioperative setting.
