Newark and Sherwood District Council is committed to making the district a cleaner, safer and greener place to live, work and visit. This is reflected in the Council’s Community Plan and our Operations Teams Leader plays a vital role in ensuring that we are able to deliver on these objectives.
We are currently recruiting Team Leader for our Street Scene team who will focus on Grounds Maintenance. In this role, you will ensure that grounds maintenance obligations and contracts are completed to a high standard and will supervise a team of front line staff. You will be responsible for the allocation of work alongside carrying out management and HR related tasks such as recruitment, absence management, team meetings and investigations where required.
You will oversee, and undertake if necessary, general maintenance of open green spaces. You will also carry out, with appropriate training, health and safety inspections on play equipment and condition surveys / routine inspections on trees along with providing quotes for additional works and services.
You will be responsible for ensuring health and safety through the safe usage of tools, equipment and plant, and adherence to COSSH regulations.
The successful candidate will have experience managing frontline staff and be able to travel within the district. You will have a level 2, or above, horticulture, or other relevant, qualification, and demonstrable experience of working in grounds maintenance, horticulture or other relevant area. You will also have knowledge of COSHH regulation. Additionally, whilst not essential, it would be beneficial for candidates to hold an RPII qualification in play inspection along with a LANTRA, or equivalent, tree survey and inspection qualification.
You will be able to work in a flexible and adaptable manner, ensuring that resources are used in the most efficient way at all times and will be able to communicate effectively when dealing with staff, customers and other stakeholders within the Council.
You will also be proficient in computer packages such as Word and Excel. With a flexible approach to work, you will be comfortable working across Street Scene where required.

You will be based at the Council’s depot on Brunel Drive but may be required to work in and around the District undertaking tasks as required. Due to the nature of the role, you must be able to carry out physically demanding tasks on occasions and willing to work outdoors in all conditions.
