Job Title Manufacturing Engineer Department Manufacturing Services Location Colchester Woods Air Movement specialises in the design, test, certification and manufacture of axial fans for a wide range of industrial, life applications. Main Purpose of Role: Reporting to the Manufacturing Improvement Leader, you will be part of a team of Manufacturing Engineers with flexible responsibilities across the factory operation. The primary duties (but not exhaustive) will be to complete routings, procedures, process improvements and time studies while getting involved in NPI, RTC, CI, issue resolution and other internal department projects. Main Duties & Responsibilities: Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures. Communicate with, involve, coach and develop the relevant personnel at all times. React quickly to support the day-to-day activity and output of the department. Identify and resolve root cause corrective actions. Identify, recommend and complete requests for Capital Expenditure, including justification benefits and Return-On-Investment timescales. Support business unit Continuous and Productivity Improvement activities working closely with Lean and Quality initiatives. Participate in and influence the New Product Introduction process to ensure design for manufacture and assembly. Procure, and replace all tooling/fixturing as required. Support the day-to-day Maintenance function and help evolve the TPM system. Plan, draw and execute layout changes in conjunction with Maintenance, EHS and Sub-Contractors. Maintain the department KPI’s including routing exceptions and timely production issue resolution. EHS compliance including hazard identification and mitigation, risk assessment updates, COSHH etc. Maintain performance and personal development, identifying training gaps and further education. Work with the Engineering and Project Management team to identify potential pitfalls and future proof the orderbook. Keep personal activity log up to date with achievable target dates. Deliverables Track and improve works order operation routings. Meet SMART project completion. H&S metrics (near miss and incident reporting). Tollgate process involvement sign off and closure. Person Specification/Profile: Worked in a production environment and understand how a modern manufacturing plant functions. Experience of generic assembly processes. Appreciation of hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical control systems. Project management experience desirable. Proven implementation of automated and/or ergonomic process improvement. Previous experience of working in teams in a manufacturing environment. Knowledge of Noise and Vibration testing, diagnostic and problem solving desirable. Ability to read and interpret drawings. A strong understanding of health and safety. Experience of the Lean methodology and implementation. Examples of SMED, Poke-Yoke, TPM etc. Possess HND Mechanical Engineering qualification. Degree with Electronic/Mechanical bias preferable. Relevant experience will be considered. Good interpersonal, influencing and project management skills. A desire for innovation and creativity. Technical ability, including strong science, maths and IT skills. A practical and logical approach to problem-solving. Interpersonal, presentation and communication skills.
