This is a fantastic time to join ‘Team Salford.’ The city is being transformed through unprecedented levels of development, investment, and business growth, and this trajectory is set to continue. The Council’s Place Directorate has been a key driver of this growth, playing a vital role in partnership with the public and private sectors.
It is within this context of sustained growth that we are looking for an experienced individual with a strong interest in sustainability and responsible business, to join us on our mission of creating good growth in Salford.
You will lead on business decarbonisation raising its importance across Salford and connecting businesses into all the available support, as well as identifying opportunities to collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to develop Salford’s low carbon supply chain.
A background in one of the following fields would be an advantage: business engagement and support, sustainability, the low carbon sector, ESG. So too, would an understanding of how a local authority or government work.
Working alongside our other Business Engagement Manager, you will help provide effective management of business growth and inward investment activities for Salford, and position Salford as a good place to do business.
You will champion business decarbonisation, help us better engage Salford businesses around this subject and support them to achieve carbon neutrality and net zero, as well as securing investment, jobs, and wider social value for Salford residents.
The role requires a high degree of collaborative working alongside peers, senior executives, and elected members, as well as with external partner organisations and the city’s businesses.
To succeed in the role, you will need to be resourceful, capable of developing and maintaining a strong support network to get things done and be able to deliver results.
You will have a professional approach and have the confidence to rise to different challenges across a varied workload.
You will need to think ‘outside the box’ to determine all the levers at play to support Salford’s net zero agenda.
You will need to keep pace with and help shape the development of the city’s strategic growth areas. Crucially, you will need to show commitment to the city and people of Salford and to the City Mayor’s ambition to create a ‘fairer, greener, and healthier Salford.’
The nature of the role means that excellent communication, presentation, and influencing skills are essential, as is the ability to positively engage with businesses and colleagues at all levels.
Your leadership style and approach should fit well with our leadership behaviour framework and with the council’s core values; that means you are self-aware, are motivated to achieve success, and inspire others to do so. You can lead yourself and lead others. Our leadership development programme will help develop your leadership qualities, behaviours, and confidence as a leader, to meet the expectations that we have of our Salford leaders.
The hiring manager is available should you wish to have an informal chat about the role before applying. Email bernie.vaudrey@salford.gov.uk to arrange a call.
There will be a two-stage interview process taking place during the weeks commencing 17th and 24th March.
