Process Engineer – Cable Assembly Manufacturing (f/m/d)
About the Role: We are looking for a Process Engineer (f/m/d) to join our team. In this role, you will work with production and project teams to develop and implement manufacturing processes for innovative assemblies used by our international customers in demanding Aerospace and Defense environments. The area of responsibility includes identification and implementation of suitable cable assembly processes; resolution of process upsets and manufacturing issues; to the scaling from prototypes to validated and volume-compatible series production.
This position will be located at our facility in Dundee, Scotland, with work from home days possible as part of a hybrid arrangement, depending upon the responsibilities of the role and business needs.
Responsibilities:
* Partner with fellow Engineers, Cell Leaders, Manufacturing Technicians to identify and implement equipment/process improvements to improve product performance (stability / capability, yield, and costs)
* Continuously improve equipment and manufacturing processes
* Execute on product development efforts, providing effective support for Product Specialists and Application Engineers through PFMEA, APQP, and PPAP to ensure the process reliably delivers a fit for use product that meets all specifications and customer requirements
* Partner with quality function to investigate customer returns and create rework processes
* Troubleshoot equipment, process and product upsets and drive root cause problem-solving, resolution and prevention
* Create product build instructions, processes and fixturing/tooling designs as required
* Support and drive product specification review and design and development processes
* Employ statistical techniques including Design of Experiments (DoE) and Statistical Process Control (SPC)
* Support, identify and drive equipment and process implementation and validation efforts in line with business strategy including fibre optic termination and testing
* Support manufacturing operations needs
Required Qualifications:
* Degree in manufacturing, mechanical, mechatronic, electrical, or similar engineering discipline
* Experience in the field of cable, cable assembly and fibre optic assembly and or subsea cabling production
* Demonstrated ability to apply engineering fundamentals including validation and statistical tools for development, optimization, and troubleshooting activities
* Conceptual thinker, ability to identify critical issues and failure modes, including analytics, underlying root cause, and take appropriate methodical actions to address
* Proven desire to work in a hands-on manufacturing environment
* Proven capability to plan and lead multiple projects from development to completion while meeting timelines and deliverables
* Flexible team player who effectively communicates and documents technical information and data
Desired Qualifications:
* Experience with AutoCAD/Inventor 3D/SolidWorks
* Awareness of AS9100 and AS9145
* Strategic growth mindset with the ability to identify and drive new projects and concepts
