About the Role: As the Head of Art & Photography, you will lead a dedicated department, inspiring students to explore their creativity while mastering technical skills in traditional and digital art forms, photography and visual media. Your role will be pivotal in developing and implementing an engaging curriculum, ensuring students of all abilities are challenged and supported. Key Responsibilities: Provide inspirational leadership to the Art & Photography department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning. Develop and implement an ambitious and inclusive curriculum that nurtures students’ creative and technical abilities. Deliver outstanding lessons in Art, Photography and Visual Media, incorporating both traditional and contemporary techniques. Encourage independent thought, artistic experimentation and critical analysis in students' work. Organise and oversee exhibitions, workshops and collaborative projects to showcase students’ talents. Manage department resources, ensuring the studio and photography facilities are well-equipped and maintained. Establish strong links with local artists, galleries and creative industries to enrich students' learning experiences. Promote careers in the creative arts, guiding students towards further education and professional opportunities. Head of Art & Photography requirements: Must have a Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). A degree in Fine Art, Photography, Visual Arts, or a related discipline. Proven experience teaching Art & Photography at secondary level, with a track record of excellent student outcomes. Previous experience in curriculum leadership, departmental management, or mentoring is desirable. Strong knowledge of traditional artistic techniques, digital media and photographic processes. The ability to inspire and challenge students through a creative and forward-thinking approach. Experience working with a range of artistic mediums, including painting, sculpture, printmaking and digital photography. Excellent classroom management and the ability to create an inclusive and engaging learning environment. A passion for fostering artistic talent and promoting creativity within education. Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
