Job purpose:
To work towards the achievement of better outcomes for children, young people and families in Hackney by:
* Providing high quality, effective and responsive early help and preventative services for children and young people in Hackney.
* Giving children and young people opportunities and encouragement to get involved in activities that complement and enhance their physical and emotional wellbeing, and which support their educational attainment and transition to employment.
* Providing additional support as required at critical times and stages of a young person’s development.
* Supporting young people to do things for themselves individually and collectively and to be active participants in their community.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Contributing to the development of participative youth programmes, personalised support and progression pathways that enable children and young people to manage transitions and improve their outcomes.
* Contributing to the development of opportunities which support community cohesion; promoting young people’s active participation within their community.
* Contributing to the development of programmes which support the ambition for a robust local offer for disabled young people.
* Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of young people in all contexts, with awareness of the risks that may be faced in respect of physical health and emotional well-being, educational attainment, sexual development, CSE, crime and gang activity, and personal finance.
* Engaging and building respectful, honest, challenging and supportive relationships with young people including those who may previously have had little contact with services and may be hard to reach.
* Acquiring local knowledge and developing a meaningful dialogue with children, young people and families; with the purpose of assessing their individual or collective developmental needs in order to provide early help interventions to meet them.
* Providing effective pathways and access to appropriate services and provision so that children, young people and families receive the help they need at the earliest opportunity.
Requirements:
* A minimum of two years’ experience of direct work with children and families.
* Experience of delivering open access and targeted youth work/ youth participation programmes.
* Relevant professional or occupational qualification in Youth Work, Teaching, Health or social work.
* Knowledge of the relevant legislation, policy and guidance relating to Children and Young People’s Services.
* Understanding of the roles and responsibilities of key agencies working with young people, including their statutory responsibilities.
* A working knowledge of Youth Justice Legislation, policy and guidance.
* Enhanced DBS dated within the last 12 months. On the update service? You could be fast tracked through our recruitment process today.
* Willingness to complete an enhanced DBS if you do not currently hold one.
