About the role We have an exciting Maternity Cover vacancy at Telford College for a Safeguarding Officer. In this role, you will play a key part in supporting the management of Safeguarding and Prevent initiatives across the College. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that all students feel safe, secure, and supported in their learning environment. You will help promote best practices and ensure full compliance with safeguarding legislation, contributing to a protective and inclusive atmosphere for all students. This position is vital to maintaining the College’s commitment to safeguarding and wellbeing, working alongside staff to uphold a safe and supportive educational experience. Key Responsibilities Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Officer, ensuring student safety and wellbeing across the College. Support the development and implementation of the College’s Mental Health Strategy. Manage a caseload of safeguarding concerns and referrals, responding effectively and in a timely manner. Collaborate with Local Safeguarding Boards, external agencies, and partner organisations to ensure comprehensive support for students. Promote a “keeping safe” culture across all areas of the College, including apprenticeships and off-site provision. Maintain confidential and accurate records of all safeguarding disclosures and actions, ensuring compliance with GDPR. Ensure safeguarding issues are handled with professionalism, care, and urgency. Skills, knowledge and expertise Qualifications and training Educated to Level 3. Level 2 Safeguarding qualification. Level 2 qualification in Maths and English. Skills and expertise Excellent communication and presentation skills. Good understanding of Ofsted and the Education Inspection Framework. Understanding of safeguarding agenda and the willingness to continually increase knowledge. Personal integrity and confidentiality. The ability to meet demanding targets. Strong communication skills. Ability to process and analyse information and present it in an effective and coherent manner.
