About Us
The Planning and Development Directorate is responsible for the sustainable and responsible development of the City’s neighbourhoods - both residential and commercial.
This high-performing team deals with a wide range of interesting environmental health matters to help to achieve positive public health outcomes for the City’s 243,000 residents and visitors.
About the Position
As an Environmental Health Officer, you will be responsible for implementing and maintaining public, environmental health, and environmental-related services, programs, and projects in accordance with statutory obligations, Business Plans, operational procedures, and Council policies.
Your duties will include responding to customer enquiries, processing applications, conducting inspections, maintaining records, collecting evidence, and preparing reports. You will also assist with training and undertake special projects as directed.
Key Responsibilities
* Respond to written and verbal customer enquiries.
* Process various applications and apply appropriate public health and environmental conditions.
* Conduct inspections and maintain accurate records.
* Collect evidence, make reports, and attend court as required.
* Undertake monitoring and sampling in accordance with Business Unit programs.
* Prepare reports and provide advice to outside agencies.
* Assist with training for students and technical officers.
About You

* Tertiary qualification in Environmental Health acceptable to the Chief Health Officer is essential (please note that Environmental Science, Nursing or other public health professional qualifications are not relevant to this position)
* Authorised person and inspector under the Environmental Protection Act for noise and unauthorised discharge.
* High level of knowledge and understanding of Environmental Health principles and practices.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to negotiate at high levels.
* Advanced skills using MS Office Suite.

This permanent full-time position is a Level 7 Inside Workforce Agreement position which attracts a salary from $96,731 - $101,823.62 gross pro rata per annum plus superannuation.
